Under 18 Panthers

... a tribute to Ben Wesley

Ben Wesley, known as Wezza to his friends and team mates had been a player for Pitstone and Ivinghoe since he joined the club as a member of the Under 6’s squad. Ben played either as a right midfielder or as a striker and was always at his happiest when playing football.

Ben was very popular with his team mates and in his last game for the club on Sunday 19th February 2012 he put in a man of the match performance and scored a hat-trick, which in turn cost his grandad £15!! Ben was a former captain of the side and was well known for his rallying cry of “Come on Boys they want it more than us!”

Ben also enjoyed playing in tournaments and would often bring along his I-pod and speakers and play us the same song ALL day long!! Ben was an avid Manchester United supporter, so much so that he wore the same shirt to training for about 3 seasons until he couldn’t squeeze into it any more.

He was known as a cheeky chappie with a cheeky smile and a personality to match. He was the only player I know that regularly bought his own ball to training and wouldn’t let anyone else play with it we used to tease him that it was his security blanket!

There are so many fantastic things that I could write about Ben in this tribute as he was such a fantastic person who was loved by everyone who knew him. He had a unique ability to make everyone laugh and smile either with something he would do or say and he will be sorely missed by everyone.

Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this very sad time.
